Ionova is developing technologies to enable ultra energy-dense batteries, high-rate batteries and scalable ultracapacitors for space flight.
Whether for unmanned applications like earth orbiting satellites, planetary or deep space exploration, or for manned applications such as the international space station or related vehicles, there is always a need for smaller, lighter, safer and temperature-tolerant energy storage.
Both manned and unmanned space vehicles demand improved power surge capture/delivery. This represents an excellent opportunity for ultracapacitors – if their energy density, safety and system voltage scalability can be improved without compromising cold-temperature operation. Ionova’s 3-D Nanofilm™ ultracapacitor is being developed to accomplish this.
Manned and unmanned space vehicles demand batteries with improved cycle life, charge/recharge rates, temperature-tolerance and system voltage scalability without sacrificing available energy. Ionova is developing the 3-D Nanofilm™ and other Li-ion technologies to address these issues.
In the case of manned space flight, metal-air (e.g Li-air) batteries utilize onboard oxygen to provide a significant increase in stored energy vs. currently available batteries. Ionova’s 3-D Nanofilm™ technology is being developed to enable Li-air batteries that live up to their promise of delivering dramatically increased energy density.
